Distance Education

Distance Education

Blog #1

After reading the three articles by Moller, Huett, Foshay, and Coleman, and watching or listening to the Simonson videos, compare and contrast the reasons these authors believe there is a need to evolve distance education to the next generation. Do you agree with their positions? Why or why not?

These authors believe there is a need to evolve distance education to the next generation for the reason of allowing a K-12 students in rural settings to receive instruction from a highly qualified instructor. Also they believe the primary driving forces in Distance Education are economics and access. I agree with their positions for the reasons that Dr. Simonson gave in his video on Equivalency Theory. They were:
Provides Equivalent Learning Experiences to those in face to face instruction
May offer increased returned on Investments for institutions
Students may gain from not having to travel to a school location or give up jobs
May increase students motivation to learn
Increased Access
(Laureate, 2004)

I agree with these positions because students do deserve to receive instruction from a highly qualified instructor. Also I believe students should be able to go back to school and not have to give up their jobs if they so choose such as distance learning.
